DID YOU KNOW....
...that October is the month that we collect for The Holy Childhood Association. Children are asked to contribute something to the class bank. Last year we received the first place plaque for collecting $7,315.43 for the previous year. We are again this year THE Catholic school that brought in the most money to help needy children, and have exceeded last year’s amount. Father Robert from the Holy Childhood Association will be the celebrant for our next school Mass and will present to us the first place plaque for collecting $8,031.17!
…that the seventh grade class is selling wrist bracelets; royal blue imprinted with "St. Genevieve Walks with Christ". The cost is $2.00 and proceeds go to the Holy Childhood Association. They will go on sale Monday, October 19th. They may be worn to school until the Thanksgiving holidays. After that time they may be worn to school for fun dress days and Spirit days.
…that your response to our first Domino’s pizza night was overwhelming! You should have received a letter of apology yesterday from Ms. Penne Carpenter, the Regional Operations Director for Domino’s with an explanation as to the delays experienced that evening. Domino’s last 15 school nights "added together" represented a total of $980.15 combined payments to the schools. The average check for any school is $65.38. Ms. Carpenter reported that this was the biggest school night in the 31 year history of the company! Our school will receive a check for $988.86 for one night! Of this amount $574.00 was included for orders that were either cancelled or given free of charge toward the end of the night. We are extremely grateful to Domino’s for this opportunity to generate funds for our school and their generosity, and most especially to our families for your participation and patience.
…that Ms. Chris had a wonderful birthday party yesterday with over 400 guests!
Thanks to our room moms for providing a cupcake for every child for the party.
…that Spirit Day was a great success. Please congratulate your children for earning this privilege for their exemplary behavior since the beginning of the school year. Few children were without our spirit T-shirt. If anyone is unable to purchase a shirt due to finances, please contact the school office.
…that the Patriots’ first service project is collecting items for Hope for Animals. Items needed include cat and dog food, litter, toys, and grooming items. The only specification is for Pedigree dog food. There are no requirements for the other items. We will present these donations to representatives from Hope for Animals at the October 29th Patriots meeting. We will start collecting the Wednesday of our return from the fall break. If you prefer to send a monetary contribution, we will write one check from St. Genevieve School, therefore your check should be made out to the school, and placed in an envelope labeled Hope for Animals.
…that on Wednesday, October 14th at 7 PM the kindergarten and first grade teachers will conduct a seminar on our reading series. It is important that parents who are new to this program in kindergarten through second grade attend this meeting.
…that our students are invited to participate in a mission trip to Saltillo, Mexico with Father Dean during the Christmas holiday. They must be accompanied by a parent. Information is available in the school or church offices.
…that a former St. Genevieve student, Maria Hebert-Leiter (class of "89) is having a book signing at Cherry Books on Friday, October 16th from 2 to 4 PM. The title of her book is Becoming Cajun, Becoming American: The Acadian in American Literature from Longfellow to James Lee Burke.
…that the fall break begins tomorrow. School will resume on October 14th.
MAKE SPECIAL NOTE:
The October Student Commission meeting has been changed from October 14th to October 15th at 8 AM. The fifth grade members are unable to attend on the 14th.
The Patriots meeting has been changed from October 28th to October 29th due to the Halloween Bazaar.
Please remember to send a note or call the cafeteria at 447-7756 if you are coming for lunch. We run the risk of running out of food for our upper graders if too many people join us for lunch without notification.
The Children of Mary will visit the Dominican Sisters in Lockport this Saturday, October 10th. They will depart from the St. Genevieve church parking lot at 10:45 AM to attend Mass with Father Dean at noon.
Children should not have personal bottles of hand sanitizer. Bottles are available for use in the classroom. Parents should be aware of the alcohol content in these products, (sometimes as high as 80%), that may pose health risks for children.
The Children of Mary will attend Mass this Sunday, October 11th, at 10:30 AM. They will begin praying the rosary at 10:00 AM. All are invited to join us to pray the rosary as a parish family.
As of September 30, 2009, the state will no longer pay for access to World Book Online. The public libraries will still have access to these reference sites. We can access these through the Louisiana State Library link on our school website. The students will need a public library card (they can use yours). It does not have to be Lafourche parish. The directions are:

CAN YOU HELP?
If you have tennis rackets or hand weights that you are no longer using, Mr. Bill would love to have them for the P.E. department.
We can always use pine needles for our flower beds!
