50th Jubilee Celebration

DID YOU KNOW …

that we are extremely grateful for your cooperation and understanding of our decision to do away with foyer dismissal. It had become unmanageable for us and unsafe for our students. This decision required a sacrifice from all of us. You are in a longer car line, and we have a longer time on duty. However, in the best interest of the children (our bottom line) we did what was necessary.

In order to make dismissal more efficient, we ask that you comply with the following:

The first car to be loaded should pull all the way up to the dumpster. Please be aware of the directions given by the duty teachers.

Don’t signal the children to come to your cars. They are told to report to the "map" on the parking lot. The teacher with the green flag signals that it is okay to move from the map to cars.

Cars should pull up as closely as possible to one another so that we can load the maximum amount of cars at one time.

If your child is unable to buckle-up on their own, pull over after you’ve exited the car line. This allows the car line to continue without delay.

Children are not allowed to load trunks. If this must be done due to band instruments or projects, etc. the driver is the only one allowed behind a vehicle. This also delays the line and should be limited to exceptions.

A car sign with the names of the riders should be visible to the duty teachers. If someone occasionally picks up your child, particularly on early dismissal days when children do not recognize the cars of grandparents and neighbors, a sign is a must.

Please limit cell phone use during car line. We are concerned about the distraction that it may present.

Car pools would greatly benefit all of us.

…that next week’s Class Night is all about your child’s class and not about individual children. A letter with the particulars was sent home today. If you have concerns about your child, you should make an appointment to speak to the teacher. Please plan to make that appointment the next day or later.

…that attending all four of the Home & School meetings puts you in the lottery for a $500.00 tuition reduction for the following year. The first of these meetings is the Class Night of August 19th.

…that the title of this year’s Patriot Players’ musical production is "Toy Camp."

This camp is a place where toys learn to be "good toys" in the hopes of graduating and earning their price tags so that they may be sold at toy stores. Not graduating from Toy Camp means certain doom at the Toy Dump!

MAKE SPECIAL NOTE:

The latest that children should be checked out on any day is 3:30 PM. After that time you should pick them up in car line.

Children should be checked out only when necessary, such as dental and doctor appointments. These should be made after school hours when possible. An excuse should be sent in the very next day.

Children who attend After Bell, but must sign out early on certain days, should make those days car line pick-up.

All visitors must check in at the office.

Parents who are checking children out early should wait for them in the office. If your child is to check out early, a note must be sent that morning and approved by an administrator. We will have the child waiting in the office for your convenience.

We encourage parents to "dine" with their children with the exception of early childhood at this time. Money should be sent in an envelope the morning of your visit. The price for adult lunches is $3.30. On some days you have a lunch choice. Please consult the calendar so that you may send in your choice with payment. This allows our cafeteria manager, Ms. Diane to have an accurate lunch count. Parents coming to lunch with their children should wait on the pews in the cafeteria rather than waiting at the classroom.

Wednesday August 26th is a half day of school for our students and a professional development day for our teachers. Our students will be dismissed at 12:45 PM. There is no After Bell on these days. Buses will be running.

On Monday we will be sending home the children’s Stanford Achievement Test results from last year. If you are the parent of a child who is now an eighth grader, the results will be mailed.

Children’s textbooks should have been covered by their return on Monday, August 17th.

Parents who are divorced or separated should get a copy of their custody papers to us as soon as possible.

We regret that skate night which was to take place on August 26th must be rescheduled.

With this newsletter you should have received a packet from Home & School which includes the following: a letter of welcome, What’s Your Bag?, an envelope for dues, and an order form for T-shirts and license plates. We also have decals that sell for two for $5.00.

We are hoping that all of you are able to purchase the school T-shirt for your children. We would love to have them wear them on field trips and school-wide on certain days. If this presents a problem financially, please let Ms. Chris know. We will keep this confidential.

Next Thursday is a treat sale and fun dress day. The proceeds from the sale are dedicated to the classroom that sponsors the sale. This month it is fifth grade.

Children should not wear flip-flops, tank tops, or shorts that are an inappropriate length on fun dress days.

Permission slips for Toy Camp are due on Monday. Tryouts will take place on Tuesday August 18th from 3:45 PM to 5:30 PM.
