DID YOU KNOW…
…that Father Dean would like to include third graders as altar servers. Any child in grades third and up that would like to join must fill out an application (available in the school office) and return it to us. We will forward it to the church office. A new application must be filled out every year. A training for ALL servers (new and old) will take place this Saturday at 10 AM in church.
…that the T-shirt we are asking every child to purchase is the same one that we sold last year. We purposely omitted the year so that we might use the same shirt for several years.
…that last night was a great success. There were 294 parents in attendance at the first Home and School meeting. Please consider volunteering for at least one of the events sponsored by the Home and School Association.
…that a benefit will be held for Adeline Lyons, sister of Lucy (4B) and Patrick (1B), born on June 6th with a very rare and fatal neurological disease. The entire family will be moving to North Carolina for a year so that Adeline may receive treatment at Duke University’s Children’s Hospital. A raffle for three Taylor Swift concert tickets will take place on September 2nd. The concert is in Lafayette on September 9th. Raffle tickets are $10.00 each and may be purchased at the following locations: Duncan Sports, Cherry Books, Bubba’s Poboy Shop, Clayton Hebert’s State Farm Insurance Office, and Griffin’s Poboys in Houma. An account has also been set up at Regions Bank in her name c/o Jean and Kevin Lyons. If you are unable to purchase a raffle ticket or contribute, please keep Adeline and her family in your prayers. We look forward to the return of Lucy and Patrick next year to St. Genevieve School.
…that Mary’s Moms meets every Wednesday during the school year at St. Joseph Church. Rosary begins at 9:30 in the church followed with a meeting in the Life Center from 10 AM to 11:30 AM. Nursery is available. This semester this group will be participating in a weekly Bible Study. The title of the study is Chosen and Cherished: Biblical Wisdom for Your Marriage. The email address is marysmoms@yahoo.com.
…that we are having two Grandparents’ Masses. Friday, September 18th at 9:15 AM is the date and time set for the grandparents of children whose last names begin with the letters K through Z. Friday, September 25th at 9:15 AM is the date and time set for the grandparents of children whose last names begin with A through J. A reception will follow both Masses.
MAKE SPECIAL NOTE:
Next Wednesday is the first of our early dismissal days. The children will be dismissed at 12:45 PM. The Lafourche Parish buses will be operating, but there will be no After Bell. Please inform anyone who may be picking up your child of our car line procedure.
Our school Mass is tomorrow. Please join us if you are able.
If you are interested in logging on to World Book the address is www.worldbookonline.com. The user name is lahome and the password is student.
Please check edline frequently. If we have an emergency this will be our means of informing you. Also, if there are calendar changes or news items that were not included in this newsletter, they will be posted on edline.
Children checking out for appointments must bring an excuse from the doctor or dentist’s office upon their return. If a child misses school, a written excuse is expected upon their return. We will be monitoring this from the office.
Before and After Bell bills were sent home today. Please return the emergency cards that we are now requiring for every Before and After Bell participant as soon as possible.
The first Patriot meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, August 26th at 8 AM in the Family Center. We will not be attending Mass.
A letter from Father Dean accompanies this newsletter.
